Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest and most famous national park in Croatia and one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the world. Since 1979, it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

16 cascading lakes separated by travertine barriers create an unforgettable landscape that changes through the seasons. The upper lakes are situated in a dolomite valley surrounded by dense forests, while the lower lakes are narrower and set in a limestone canyon valley.

Veliki Slap (Great Waterfall), at 78 meters, is the tallest waterfall in Croatia. The park is home to bears, wolves, lynx and many other species, and forests of beech, fir and spruce cover most of the park.

Although Plitvice Lakes are about 250 km from Pakoštane, a full-day trip is absolutely worth it. Hotel Marin can help arrange transportation and guides.
